Since 1957, the Montecito Family YMCA has provided programs for youth development, healthy living and social responsibility to the residents of the Montecito community. The YMCA has been operating at its current location since 1966.  Last year, over 4,000 individuals participated in programs at the YMCA and over $100,000 of financial assistance were provided to more than 400 individuals and families who otherwise wouldn’t have been able to participate. These new additions will give the Montecito Family YMCA the resources to help our neighbors and families tackle the challenges of the decades ahead. We will have ample, appropriate space to address current program needs.

2019 MASTERPLAN UPDATES

Through our partnership with the community and neighbors, community concerns were addressed regarding the size and scope of the project. After consulting with community experts and architects, the project scope was reduced by 30% which resulted in a smaller footprint for parked vehicles and the removal of the on-site preschool to an alternate off-site location.

New Multi-Purpose Building– The project will provide an indoor multi-purpose space, allowing all-weather youth sports programs here in our own community. Activities from brown bag lunchtime half-court basketball for working adults, new and innovative exercise activities for active older adults and teens, to Itty Bitty Sports for four and five year old children. Sports and instructional activities for all ages will be offered here, including Pickleball.

Sustainable Design

The main objectives of sustainable design are to reduce, or completely avoid, depletion of critical resources like energy, water, land, and raw materials; prevent environmental degradation caused by facilities and infrastructure throughout their life cycle; and create built environments that are livable, comfortable, safe, and productive.

Disaster Preparedness - The recent increase in wildfires and debris flows in the past several years have shown a need for community safe spaces and staging areas for first responders. Updating our facility and enclosing many of our outdoor areas will help to provide safety from the elements and ensure a place for neighbors to come to if the need arises.
